Mission

STAND is a national grassroots organization of Americans dedicated to preserving our Judeo-Christian History and Values; saving the unborn from the slaughter of abortion; maintaining marriage as a sacred union between one man and one woman; reversing our country’s slide into secular atheism, anti-Semitism and anti-Christian bigotry; continuing to be the world’s strongest military power; protecting Israel’s right to exist and be secure within its borders; supporting political leaders who uphold these values and opposing those who do not; and promoting a vision of America as one nation under God, without regard to ethnicity.

CULTURAL ISSUES

STAND For The Preservation of Our Judeo Christian Heritage.

The Judeo Christian Heritage bequeathed to us by our Founding fathers is important not only to understanding our past, but to securing our future. We support teaching the spiritual heritage of America in our public schools along with the economic and political heritage. Our economic, political and spiritual traditions are inextricable, and we must restore to the body politic a knowledge of the history and traditions which have produced the greatest nation the world has even known. STAND rejects the false accusation that Christians want America to be a theocracy. We understand that the United States of America is a constitutional democratic republic. We cannot and should not be "legally" defined as a Christian country. The European experience shows us that State established religion is dead on arrival. On the other hand, to suggest that America is not a Christian nation historically and culturally is to deny the obvious. What the framers clearly had in mind when the First Amendment was instituted was that no Christian denomination would be established over another or be deemed the "official" religion of America. Each person would be free to follow his or her conscience. Their reference point was Christian or more broadly, Judeo Christian. That is why the first Continental Congress printed Bibles for distribution to the populace. Now we have people, supported by the ACLU, who claim that it is unconstitutional for children to pledge allegiance to "one nation under God". They want to strike all reference to God from public schools and public life, and replace America's historic faith with a secular amoral value system. With our last breath we as Americans must STAND against them and we must win.

STAND For Unity In America Across Racial & Cultural Lines

It is time to bring an end to the hyphenated American. We have balkanized ourselves into islands of ethnocentrism: Italian-Americans, Irish-Americans, Jewish-Americans, Hispanic-Americans and African-Americans. We understand the desire of our citizens to maintain a connection to their history and ancestry. That desire is legitimate, but not at the expense of our national unity. We are Americans with different ethnic backgrounds, but we are first and foremost Americans. Some of our forefathers came from Europe, some from Asia, India, the African continent and a host of nations around the world. If we restrict ourselves to our ethnic enclaves and ethnic identities, we deprive ourselves of the great benefits of the American experiment. It is about uniting a diverse group of people with a common love for freedom, democracy and the ideals of our nation. We are a family. We unite under one Constitution, one flag, and one common destiny as one nation under God with liberty and justice for all.

We oppose the "racializing" issues which have nothing to do with race. The left along with certain elements of the black, Hispanic and other communities tend to use race as a sledge hammer against those who disagree with them. This tactic has been used in debates over affirmative action, welfare, healthcare, hurricane Katrina and anywhere they can crowbar it in. This must stop! STAND is categorically opposed to this despicable attack on people of good will who happen to disagree with the left. Part of the reason this tactic is used that liberals cannot win the arguments on the merits. The race card is their last resort. We urge Americans to reject this and refuse to be cowed by those who would call us "racists," "Uncle Toms" or any other disparaging name they come up with. When they do this, we know we are winning. It is time to take a STAND!

STAND For The American Flag As A Unifying Symbol.

The flag is more than a piece of cloth. It is a symbol which we all should respect as a statement of our unity. It should not be burned, even if the Supreme Court has declared it Constitutional to do so. Nor should it be disrespected in any way. Brave men and women have shed blood and died fighting under its banner. Any person who is ashamed of our flag should be disqualified from holding public office in this nation. STAND is not suggesting that such persons be legally barred, but that voters bar them at the ballot box. As Americans we should be unreservedly patriotic because we have the privilege of living in the greatest country the world has even known and enjoying the greatest freedom people have ever experienced. We love our country and we love our flag and we make no apologies to anyone for being patriotic.

STAND For Christian Involvement In The Political Process

For too long, those who hold to traditional moral and social values have stood on the sidelines and complained. In recent years - through The Moral Majority, Christian Coalition, Family Research Council and other organizations for conservative Christian legal and political activism - more Christians have engaged the process. However, three major problems still exist. First, organizations such as the Christian Coalition and The Moral Majority are either defunct or have little impact for a variety of reasons. There is a need for a grassroots organization which brings together people of like mind to influence public policy in our communities, our states and our country. STAND is that organization.

Second, far too many Christians remain uninvolved. There is a great deal of education necessary to help Christians understand that political involvement is not some sort of sin or compromise with the world. To the contrary it is a spiritual obligation. The sin is to be silent while our country forgets the lessons of its past and ignores the greatness of its values. Christians must become involved, not to create a theocratic nation, but so the historic Judeo-Christian values of our nation will continue to inform the body politic and assure our future greatness.

Third, too may Christians separate their spirituality and values from their political responsibility. As a result we have the anomaly of Christians voting for candidates who support abortion. This sin is a scourge on the nation and the blood of the innocents cries out to God from the ground. We dare not add to that blood by empowering those who would spill more of it. The abortion industry, when stripped of its public relations veneer, is an ugly brutal industry which benefits from the deaths of innocent babies and the self-absorbed decisions of sexually irresponsible men and women. Because it is now so deeply woven into our social fabric, we must not criminalize it. However, we must stigmatize it and offer alternatives to it. We must never support those who accept it as a mere "choice" to be celebrated.

Those Christians who think they are showing sophistication and open mindedness by voting for people who support abortion should view the trash cans of abortion clinics filled with the tiny body parts of aborted babies, and the blood, tears and lifetime scars left over. The moral blind spot may be particularly true in the black community where Christians vote against their own values simply because a candidate is black. STAND believes that if people know better, they will do better. We must teach them. The same can be said of voting for those who support so called "Gay Rights". If one holds a Biblical world view and claims to be a Christian, this commitment should be reflected in the voting booth just as much as it is in Church on Sunday morning. We should vote for those whose values reflect our own, not simply for those who share the same race, ethnicity or gender.

STAND For Helping Others Through Private Charity Over Government

We must remain a compassionate society, helping and caring for our fellow citizens who cannot care for themselves. However, creating governmental dependence on entitlement programs for those who can help themselves is not compassion but slavery. Nor must government become a substitute for what families and churches are better equipped to do. We must end the false dichotomy which prevents the use of government funds going to churches and other religious institutions who give help to the helpless. Caring for the mentally ill, the handicapped, the elderly, at risk children, and freeing people from alcohol and drug addiction are efforts more effectively done by local faith based institutions than by government bureaucracies.

STAND For English As Our Official Language.

Whenever the issue of English as the official language of the U.S. is raised, there are cries of racism and xenophobia. It is our observation that charges of racism are the last haven of the scoundrel. Name calling will do when there are no arguments to support a position. There are strong reasons for having English as our "official language" which have nothing to do with racism or xenophobia. First, America is not just a legal and political system, we are a culture. There is a unique American culture and English is its center piece. Our common language unites us and allows us to communicate with one another. It minimizes balkanization, which is important in an increasingly global economy. As more immigrants come into the country, it avoids the potential legal issues which may arise when others demand that we accommodate their language rather than realizing they must learn English. This has never been an issue in the past, but today, with the rising population of Spanish speaking immigrants, legal and illegal, there is growing pressure to become a bilingual nation. In the past, immigrants understood that among their highest priorities was learning to speak English. There were no bilingual programs for European immigrants who could not speak English. They learned the language. It was that simple. Declaring English our official language is the only way to assure that we never become a nation which needs translators to talk to each other.

STAND Against Efforts To Profane & Sexualize Our Youth and Culture

There are those in America who want to radically transform our nation and its values. They want virtually no moral standards other than those coming out of a socialist world view. For example, from their perspective, we should not be concerned about adultery, abortion, pregnancy out of wedlock, cohabitation or homosexuality. However we should condemn those who dare to leave a large "carbon footprint" or dare to eat animals or wear fur coats, etc. They have set out to establish their own morality, which basically ignores any Judeo-Christian point of reference. These people know that many adults, particularly those who take the Bible seriously, will never buy into their new morality. However, children are a blank slate. If they can get them while in primary school or even kindergarten, they can create a generation completely inculcated with the modern morality. We must rescue our youth from their clutches. We must STAND against the drumbeat of sexual education which is often nothing more than indoctrination. Many youth know little of geography, American History, math or science, but they know how to put on a condom. Radicals and far left liberals are hijacking the next generation. We must understand that when people are bent on radically altering a society, the manipulation of children is the highest priority.

Recently 21 girls in a high school circulated cell phone pictures of themselves with breasts exposed. At one school dance, the kids engaged in simulated sex right in front of the teachers who were there to chaperone. There has been an epidemic of young female teacher having sex with their elementary, middle and high school students. Mary Kaye Laterneau was the first and most famous, but she was apparently the tip of the iceberg. Why are we shocked? We ply our youth with a steady diet of sexual images. The young teachers have grown up with it, and the kids they are teaching are growing up in it. These are crimes and the teachers must be punished, but we must also address the sexually charged atmosphere that our society has created for our youth. If we do not, we will see the continuing breakdown of the family, the erosion of marriage and an increasingly decadent culture.

STAND Against The Gay Rights Movement And The Normalization of Homosexuality

STAND asserts that in spite of the continuing effort by the mainstream media, the entertainment industry and popular music to make homosexuality the equivalent of heterosexuality, it is not. Nor do we believe that homosexuality is normal. We reject and confront the lie that anyone who believes that homosexuality is not appropriate or right or normal, is by definition a hater and a bigot. Of course it is convenient and effective to make such a claim because it serves to marginalize those who hold to a biblical view of homosexuality. It is entirely possible to treat a person with respect and dignity while disagreeing with their life choices. STAND believes that homosexuality is a choice. God does not make anyone a homosexual, and there is no proof that anyone is "born" that way. They become homosexuals because of molestation or early life experiences or sexual experimentation which leads to unhealthy sexual habituations. It is possible to cure those who want to live a normal sexual lifestyle. Those who wish to live as homosexuals are free to do so. However, that is not enough for them. They demand that others agree with them and that they be given the imprimatur of public policies such as homosexual marriage and open homosexuality within the military. Many Americans believe that homosexuality is constantly being thrown in their faces, but they dare not speak out against it for fear of stigma and retaliation. If the debate could be open and without the name calling, we would learn that the overwhelming majority of Americans want to respect all human beings, but do not want to be told that there is something wrong with them for rejecting homosexuality as normal. Most Americans believe it is wrong, and we STAND with those Americans.

STAND Against The Liberal Bias In American Colleges and Universities

How far we have come from our once lofty respect for freedom of speech and thought. We now have the equivalent of a secret police of enforcers of political correctness. Nowhere is this more apparent than on most college campuses throughout America. Teachers use their positions as Professors to indoctrinate their students into a liberal or socialist way of approaching the problems of America and the world. They are steeped in the "Blame America First" mentality. In Western societies it has been the intellectual elite who have generally supported radical reforms leading to oppression of millions in the guise of "liberating" them. History has shown that the "liberation" they offer is a far more onerous system which gives power to those radicals to control the lives of the people, for their own good of course.

We are not yet at the point of a Bolshevik revolution, but consider what is happening. Professors are pressured and sometimes even fired for not adhering to the global warming hysteria, evolution or some other sanctioned liberal viewpoint. Very few Professors with conservative ideas are hired to be teachers, and when they are, the faculty sees them as anomalies at best and outlaws at worst. Scientists who dare to admit faith in God are ridiculed as unscientific, completely ignoring the faith tradition of some of the great scientists of Western Civilization. Conservative groups which attempt to speak on campuses are shouted down and violently attacked. This is the American Academy of today. No matter how effective we are at turning out smart people, we are showing all the signs of intellectual bankruptcy in our institutions of higher learning. This Academic hemorrhaging must be stopped.

STAND Against Liberal Media Bias

Sadly, the majority of reporters and news outlets in the United States have rejected traditional American values and ideals. As a result their biases against Christians and conservatives are reflected in their reporting. When reporting on international issues which affect America's safety and security, they express the need to be neutral regarding their own country. Many reporters no longer feel any obligation of loyalty to our nation. We saw this with CNN reporting on the Iraq war, airing the kills of insurgent snipers against American troops, interviewing and treating terrorists like legitimate combatants. We saw this with the New York Times revealing secret surveillance techniques of the U.S. government against suspected terrorists. This is wrong, and we must hold reporters and news agencies accountable for bias and lack of loyalty to their own country. Any news organization which demonstrates a disregard for the safety and security of the American people should be boycotted. We should not buy their newspapers or watch their programs. Perhaps if their bottom lines suffer enough, they will eventually see the truth that a house divided against itself will not stand.

STAND Against Surrender of American Sovereignty to the U.N. or Any Foreign Entity

The United States of America does not need anyone's permission to pursue our own interests. There is a growing chorus of people around the world, and some even in our own country who seem to want us to surrender our autonomy. We do not need the permission of the United Nations or anyone else to defend ourselves and protect our interests. The fact that some nations and peoples do like us should in no way diminish our identity and pride in who we are. They should respect the fact that we will use our might to preserve our way of life. Our desire is to live in peace with all people. We have no interest in conquering or dominating other nations, but nor will we be conquered or dominated. We should work with our allies and keep lines of communication open. We should seek consensus wherever it is possible to do so. What we should not do is allow ourselves to be paralyzed by fears of what others in the world will think of us. The U.S.A. gives more money in foreign aid than any other nation in the world. We have spent billions of dollars to help stem the tide of AIDS and poverty in Africa, and no credit for it. We should do good when we can, fight for our rights and interests when we must and leave it to God and human history to judge the rightness of our actions.

STAND Against Activist Judges Who Use the Law To Make Liberal Social Policy

Judges who view the Constitution as their personal parchment twist it to justify abortion, homosexual marriage or removing the words "under God" from the pledge of allegiance. These judges are a scourge upon our nation. We should not elect Governors or Presidents who will appoint such judges. When they transgress their Constitutional authority, we should impeach them. Our nation has shown a remarkable ability to make progress without the help of judicial tyrants, and we will continue to do so.

DOMESTIC POLICY

Marriage is a sacred institution and the bedrock of our culture. It must be supported, preserved, protected and given a place of preeminence in our society. In keeping with this principle, STAND supports a Federal Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union only between one man and one woman. We must lovingly, but firmly resist the effort to make heterosexual cohabitation, homosexual unions and other so called "nontraditional families" the legal and social equivalent of heterosexual monogamous marriage. Many of our social pathologies, including drug abuse and addiction, child and spouse abuse and a host of other crimes can be linked to the breakdown of the two parent heterosexual, monogamous family. Fighting for the family is fighting for the preservation of America as we know it.

STAND For School Choice.

There was a time in our nation when there was a spiritual, moral and intellectual consensus about our values and the appropriate education for our children. Public Schools were established at such a time and continued to function without controversy until the 1960's. During the 60's, while great gains were made in the area of civil rights, opportunists pushed the envelope to redefine morality in the areas marriage, sexuality, drug use and a host of other issues. The entire American value system was called into question. Our involvement in Viet Nam was deemed by many of our own citizens to be evil and destructive. Godless communists on the other hand were heroes of the revolution and Jane Fonda could pose on a tank with the Viet Cong, the very people who were killing American military personnel.

The Founding Fathers were recast as hypocrites and racists unworthy of our admiration. Through television and radio, popular culture became a primary socializing influence, particularly over our youth who heretofore had only their parents and churches to define their values. Unfortunately, the public schools have become hot beds of controversy over these issues. The most recent example was that of a Vermont School which chose to teach children about all matters of sexuality at 8 years old without parental permission or notification. Another school in California allowed an 8 year old boy - claiming to be a girl - to come to school dressed in female clothing and use the female bathrooms. The school changed to unisex bathrooms. There is only one answer to this chaos - School Choice.

We must maximize the right of parents to choose the environment and curriculum for their children. America's students score among the lowest of the industrialized nations in reading, math and science. In spite of this situation, many schools have time to teach children about condoms and other contraception, alternative lifestyles and homosexuality. We must open all schools to choice. Let competition and the market place create the kinds of schools people want for their kids. Give each child a certificate of education and allow them to purchase the kind of education their family wants.

STAND For Energy Independence.

We must become energy independent and we must do so with haste. We can and should reduce our dependence on foreign oil by 80% by the end of 2025. STAND supports doing this with a mix of nuclear energy, drilling off shore and in ANWAR, obtaining oil from shale and increased use of coal. Since we have an abundance of coal in America, we should use it and move full speed ahead in the development of clean coal technology. Alternative sources such as solar and wind should be used where practical, but cannot be seen as predominant sources of our energy needs. They may never be. We should also invest research and development on the use of hydrogen as a practical energy source. We can no longer allow ourselves to be held hostage by enemies such as Caesar Chavez of Venezuela and other countries whose interests are in opposition to the United States. Nor can we be handicapped by radical environmentalists who have an anti-capitalist agenda masquerading as concern for the environment. The American people have the common sense to understand the need to be good stewards of the natural environment, but that this interest must be balanced against the human need for a vibrant and growing economy and the national security need to be energy independent.

STAND For Business

STAND is pro-business. Without business there are no jobs. Without jobs there is no prosperity for Americans. We support the fostering of an entrepreneurial culture which encourages small business start-ups, technological innovation, low or no capital gains taxes and minimal regulations. America is a capitalist country, not socialist. This has been a key to our growth and prosperity and it is the key to our continued economic vitality as a nation. Corporations are not disembodied repositories of evil. They are made of people: our families, friends and neighbors. They are charged with being good stewards of those who have invested their hard earned money in those businesses. For the most part they are doing business ethically and honestly to make a profit for their investors. They should not be demonized. Some of the largest corporations in America began as risky ventures, with people putting blood, sweat and tears into their success. They have now grown to a place of importance in our national economy. We need them and they need us. Corporations and business have helped raise the standard of living in this country to the greatest in history. What we want is for all of us to prosper together.

STAND For The Rule Of Law and Against Crime

Public Safety and the rule of law must be the highest priority of our government. Law enforcement and public safety officers must be appropriately compensated. Crime must be dealt with justly and consistently. The first priority of our criminal justice system must be punishment. All prisoners must be treated humanely, but rehabilitation should be a priority only for nonviolent first offenders in nonsexual crimes. Child molesters should receive 25 years with no possibility of parole for the first offense and a life sentence without the possibility of parole for the second offense. A child molester who murders a child should be executed. If we do not protect our children, we cannot call ourselves a just society. Chronic violent or sexual offenders must be removed from our midst for the safety of all. We support life sentences without the possibility of parole and execution where the crimes warrant such punishments.

STAND for Support of Police and Firefighters

Police Officers and Firefighters risk their lives daily for the safety of the American people. When 9-1-1 occurred, these brave men and women were running toward an inferno others were desperate to escape. They did so in disregard of their own lives and safety - to save their fellow citizens. They deserve our full support. Given the dangers of their jobs and the split second decisions which must often be made, things will go wrong on occasion. When this happens, they deserve the benefit of the doubt. When they violate our trust by engaging in intentional criminal behavior, they should be punished to the full measure the law allows. However, they should not be punished for making bad decisions in the field or poor judgment in a crisis. Most of us will never run into a burning building or face gun fire from someone trying to kill us. Police and firefighters face these issues regularly. We should refuse to be Monday morning quarterbacks, quick to judge their actions in the heat of the battle.

STAND For The Right to Keep and Bear Arms

Part of the essence of freedom in our country is the right of the individual to protect life and property. Our Founders understood this and enshrined that right in the Second Amendment of the Constitution. That right can of course be regulated appropriately to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals, children and those who lack the mental stability to handle weapons responsibly. However, because the right to bear arms is constitutionally protected, we must resist any effort to limit the exercise of that right and be sure that any regulation is based upon a compelling government interest and very narrowly tailored to keep firearms out of the hands of criminals, children and the mentally ill. Any such efforts must be balanced against the very heavy weight to be given the right of law abiding citizens to exercise their right of self-defense. Most efforts to limit the right to keep and bear arms are unconstitutional, including the bans in D.C and the Supreme Court so found. Criminals always get their guns. It is law abiding citizens who are deprived of the right to protect their lives and property.

STAND For A United America

Not only does our nation face a crisis of values, but Christians, who are the chief defenders of our historic spiritual and moral heritage, face a crisis of unity in upholding those values. We see fractures in the Episcopal Church, high profile Catholics openly defecting and discrediting the teaching of the Catholic church and young evangelicals purportedly denying the supremacy of the life issue as the priority for evangelicals. Worst of all is the continuing disconnect between black and white Christians who share a common faith and moral understanding. Yet black Christians tend to vote counter to their Biblical values and vote for candidates who are pro-abortion, support homosexual unions and marriage and are sometimes hostile to the interests of Israel. These are core issues on which all Bible believing Christians should be united. However, many black Christians seem to have greater loyalty to the Democratic party than to Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

STAND is not interested in promoting or opposing a particular party, but is committed to calling Christians to vote their spiritual convictions rather than party or race. Christians face the terrible possibility of bequeathing to future generations a secular atheist America hostile to the principles and faith of our founders. We must unite - regardless of our ethnicity, national origins or racial background - to make sure that our Founders vision of a Godly nation is never lost. More importantly, we must preserve the Christian cultural heritage of our country to be sure that the what the Founding Fathers referred to as the favor of Providence is never lost.

STAND For The Right of Christians and Jews to Express Their Faith

We believe that one of the worst mistakes in the history of constitutional law was to ban prayer in the public schools. Not only have the schools deteriorated since that time, but that decision has set off a wave of bigotry against expressions of Christianity and Judaism as well. Valedictorians cannot mention the name of Jesus in their speeches for fear of reprisals. Students are often denied the right to start Bible clubs while every other kind of group is encouraged. Even student led prayer, which is a constitutional right, faces all kinds of obstacles by school administrations. On the other hand, Christian students and observant Jews are made to feel like bigots and haters for refusing to celebrate the gay lifestyle along with the teachers and students who support it. Even Islam enjoys greater protection and accommodation than Christianity and Judaism in America. It is time for Christians to STAND up and say we will accept this no longer.

STAND For The Civil Rights of All Americans

We must protect and defend the rights of all Americans, but particularly women and minorities where those rights are truly violated. Legitimate civil rights claims should be supported and upheld. Yet we must never allow this lofty ideal to be exploited by a cadre of elites seeking political power and influence under the guise civil rights concerns. We must not promote racial, ethnic and gender divisions, but unity as "one nation under God with liberty and justice for all". Nor should we allow organizations such as the ACLU to make a mockery of civil rights and turn them into a camouflage for an extreme left wing socialist anti-Christian agenda.

STAND Against Race Based Policies Which Serve To Divide Us

Affirmative Action has been a well intentioned policy to assure equality of opportunity and remedial action for those who have historically been denied opportunity. However well intentioned, the policy has two unintended consequences. First, it fostered resentment among persons from other racial groups who felt that they were being denied opportunities which were given to less qualified minorities. Instead of redressing racial injustice, this policy only served to exacerbate tensions and divisions between blacks and other groups. Secondly, instead of fully advancing the interests of blacks and other minorities, such race based policies only served to call into question their competence and worthiness. Efforts to redress historic wrongs through racial quotas and classifications are deeply misguided. We should be an "opportunity society" in which anyone can rise to the top. Schools, businesses and institutions should reach out to those from economically and socially disadvantaged backgrounds to make them aware of opportunities, but nothing should substitute for competence nor should standards be lowered for anyone. What we want to do is make sure that all people have the opportunity to compete, but results should be based on ability not race.

Standing Against The Open Practice of Homosexuality in the Military

As has already been noted there is a concerted effort to normalize homosexuality as a desirable and lifestyle with all the legitimacy of the traditional marriage. This is a very unhealthy trend which undermines the Judeo-Christian values of this nation. Nowhere is this trend more dangerous than in the efforts to allow the open practice of homosexuality in the military. Proponents argue that other nations have allowed this successfully without any detrimental effects. First, we are not those nations. Europe has largely rejected God and rejected adherence to Judeo-Christian morality. Because that is their predisposition, they will always justify their adoption of amoral policies. However, we should not how military week the European nations are. We do not want to emulate their definition of success. If they get into real trouble, they will be relying on us to get them out. On the other hand, we cannot rely on them for any strong military support. They have become a largely pacifist continent. America cannot afford to degenerate militarily as Europe has. At least one nation must be prepared to defend its freedom, and America is that nation. Allowing open homosexuality in the military will certainly not aid that cause. The homosexual political lobby is not pushing for this for the good of the nation but to put another notch in their belt of legitimacy. They will not be satisfied until every institution in America bows to their obsession to have homosexuality viewed as normal. As a happy byproduct they also want to persecute those who refuse to accept adhere to their sexual orthodoxy. We do not need that kind of pressure in our military.

In addition, the pressure of living in close quarters, with very little privacy can create problems among heterosexual men. When we add the explosive issue of people being forced to live in close contact with persons who are attracted to the same sex, we introduce complications which only serve to make military life more difficult than it already is. We have ion place a don't ask, don't tell policy. STAND would prefer a policy which bans homosexuals from serving in the military for the reason cited above. However, we can accept the status quo. Sexual matters are private. Keeping them so makes for a healthier society and a healthier military.

STAND Against Global Warming Hysteria and Environmental Extremism

STAND believes in the importance of clean air, preservation of our wildlife and respect for our forests and natural habitats. However, radical environmentalism has often put animals above human beings, and created extreme hardship for people with irrational environmental regulations. For example, there is the proposal to raise gas taxes by 50 cents to a dollar a gallon to help deal with the crisis of global warming. This is being proposed at a time when gas prices are already high. Radical environmentalism threatens our economy. The environmental movement is creeping totalitarianism which controls more of our personal lives under the guise of saving the environment. Global Warming is embraced with hysterical zeal. Anyone who dares to question the science is personally attacked and marginalized. There are outstanding scientists and climatologists who interpret the temperature data as cyclical warming caused by the sun. Such persons are dubbed "flat-earthers". Al Gore has even gone so far as to suggest that the press should not interview or speak with anyone who disagrees with global warming. It is time for the American people to say we will STAND for reasonable environmental stewardship, but against radicalism disguised as concern for the environment.

FOREIGN POLICY AND NATIONAL SECURITY

STAND For a Strong Military Defense

We must maintain a strong military defense. We must project American economic, political and military power around the world to protect American citizens, promote democracy and maintain peace. We live in an unstable world and there are evil forces arrayed against us and our way of life. We must not apologize for being Americans, nor for being the world's richest and most powerful nation. We must see this as a sacred trust to be used for the benefit of our citizens and freedom loving peoples around the world. Weakness will only invite disaster.

We must reaffirm our support for our allies and our opposition to our adversaries in the strongest possible terms. This involves five elements:

STAND Against Islamic Terrorism

Islamo-fascism and other forms of terrorism must be stopped. Our first priority as a nation is self-preservation. We must eradicate those who wish to destroy us and our way of life. We must use every military, diplomatic, economic and political resource at our disposal to defeat this threat. STAND supports aggressive surveillance to monitor the communications of suspected terrorists without the necessity of obtaining prior warrants. We support immunity for communications companies which assist the United States in intercepting calls from foreign nationals who may be engaged in terrorist activities. We do not believe that this in any way diminishes the civil rights of average Americans. We hold the civil rights of Americans sacred, but minimal impact and inconvenience is a worthy trade off to save American lives in a time of war. While opposed to torture, STAND also supports aggressive interrogation techniques against terrorists for the limited purpose of obtaining information to prevent attacks and save American lives. We do not believe that making terrorist prisoners uncomfortable with sleep deprivation, loud music, bright lights or water-boarding constitute torture. We define torture as beating, cutting, maiming, breaking bones or causing permanent or long-term physical or mental harm to a prisoner. For the safety of our citizenry, there should be a moratorium on immigration from all countries deemed to support terrorism.

STAND Against Rogue Nations & Nuclear Proliferation

It is an unthinkable nightmare to have nuclear weapons in the hands of Mahmud Ahmadinijad or Kim Jong Il. Such a development would destabilize the world and could at some point be the trigger for a world wide conflagration. The Iranian leader has vowed to wipe Israel from the face of the earth. With nuclear weapons he could do so in short order. Such an attack on Israel would demand an American retaliatory response, which could draw Russia and China into the fray. This must never be allowed to happen. We STAND against the appeasement so often touted as the answer. We learned from WWII that we cannot reason with irrational leaders. They use diplomacy as a cover for their preparations for war, as Hitler did with Chamberlain. While we talked, Hitler armed himself. This lesson of history is lost to most liberal political leaders. Nations which support terrorism should be economically and diplomatically isolated. They should be made to suffer the consequences of promoting war and chaos instead of peace and prosperity.

STAND Against Illegal immigration

Unfortunately, we have come to a point where trying to uphold American Immigration Law is seen as hatred and prejudice against Latinos. As Christians we have great compassion for the plight of those who come to America seeking a better life. Most of them are law abiding once they arrive, and should be treated with dignity and respect for their motives if not their means. Nonetheless, illegal immigration is not the way, and it must be halted. It undermines the rule of law and threatens the cohesiveness of our culture. Mexican and other Spanish speaking immigrants are welcomed along with all immigrants if they come through the proper legal process. We cannot absorb an infinite number of people and maintain American culture and identity. We cannot maintain an orderly society if we reward those who violate our laws to get here. While most illegal immigrants obey the law once they arrive, many criminals come in with them. Furthermore, illegal immigration itself is a criminal enterprise of smugglers and drug dealers. Until we as a nation get control of our borders and the illegal immigration problem, there should be a moratorium on all immigration except for special needs in the interests of the United States or a humanitarian emergency. The fence along our southern border must be completed and supported by technology and additional border patrol officers to eliminate the constant influx of illegal immigrants. The fence is an insult only to those who plan to violate it. It is time to stop trying to placate the world at our own expense. We are the most free, generous and giving nation on the face of the earth. If that does not satisfy them, nothing will. It is insane to craft policies counter to our interests in order to court foreign nations who will hate us no matter what
